Exciting News!

So most of you probably know that a couple years back (ok, way back in 2019) we took a straw bale house building workshop. While there we, along with about 30 awesome folks, helped build a strawbale house in Kingston, WA. It was incredibly fun and we learned so much. It also convinced us that this wild idea of ours to build our own house was possible.

We had wanted from the beginning to host our own house building workshop through the same organization but we knew with all the complications around our build we couldn’t guarantee that we would be ready at a specific date. And that was the right decision at the time since years later we are finally building!

But, with our decision this summer to put off bale work until summer 2025, AC realized that we are now in a perfect position to host a workshop. So we reached out last fall and luckily the folks at Strawbale.com agreed that our build is a great match for a workshop!

Our workshop is scheduled for July 13th through 19th. You can find more information on their website. If you or someone you know is interested in attending this workshop I recommend getting on it quick, our workshop is already 3/4 full! Also for those of you who know us, reach out before you register so I can share some additional details.

If the whole workshop experience isn’t your speed, we will still need lots of help from our community to make this happen before, during and after the workshop:

  • Building shower stalls for the on demand propane showers
  • Setting up eating and cooking areas
  • Running for last minute tools and supplies while AC and I are busy with the workshop
  • Cooking & cleaning to prepare for and during the workshop
  • Possibly finishing any bale work that doesn’t get done during the workshop
  • Adding the 2nd and 3rd layers of plaster

I’ll post when we have more info.

,There are a lot of things to do to get ready but we are very excited about this.

Here are a couple pictures from the Kingston workshop to give you a taste of what it looks like mid process.
