Milestone & a Reality Check
The last piece of subfloor going in!
It was a very well documented chunk of plywood…

We also found a fun little squatter when we went to cut the last piece of plywood, they were relocated to a shady spot nearby.

And now for the reality check. After the work party was over and we celebrated the last piece of subfloor going in, we took a hard look at the calendar and voiced something that we all saw coming for a while now. We’re not finishing this house this year, and that’s Ok.
Our current goal is to get framing & roofing done this summer/early fall. Then we’ll board & tarp up the house to protect our work and spend the winter working on all sorts of related projects. There are plenty to keep us busy!
- Milling lumber for various interior things like window sills and flooring
- Going through all our stuff and getting rid of a lot of the duplicates like kitchen tools and furniture that we ended up with when my parents moved up here.
- Doing tests of our plaster mix, finishes and color to make sure we love the end result
- Running the plumbing to and through the house
- Installing floor and roof insulation
- And plenty more!
While it came with a tinge of disappointment we feel good about this decision. It leaves us with the time to do things right and make sure we have a house that will last us the rest of our lives and hopefully a good long time past that!
Then when the weather clears next summer we’ll be ready to boogie!
So, for all of you offering your help, thank you and I will continue to reach out as we have things we need help on. We couldn’t do this without you <3
